I think there should be an option where a merchant can choose to have the customer portal account created automatically for every customer that purchases from them. This is especially important for a merchant doing a lot of recurring billing. The customers always want to be able to login and see payments/subscriptions so being able to have customer portal accounts created at the time of initial purchase would be good.13 votes
Most of my email support involves people who have lost their download link or not received the download email at all. If you would list the download link or the thankyou url with each purchase in the customer portal that would be ideal.4 votes
Please add a feature to issue a "store credit" that can track the balance over multiple purchases. Many times my customers would rather have a credit toward a future purchase than a full refund. Alternatively, if I make a mistake on an order, I like to give people a credit as an apology and to encourage them to buy again. I have used coupon codes, but if the follow-up purchase is less than the original, I have to remember to issue another coupon with the new balance.4 votes
There needs to be a box in the customer portal that allows them to resubscribe to receiving emails. Sometimes a customer/email receiver will opt-out, not realizing that they would be unsubscribed from everything and never to receive emails again, only to want to receive emails again. We have no way of re-subscribing someone. I get a few emails a month from people wondering why they aren't getting our emails and we have no way of fixing it.
Please put a check box in their customer portal area that allows them to re-subscribe as a general email customer.3 votes
I think it would be very helpful to require users to register with a name, phone number and email address before they proceed to checkout. This would at minimum help with basic CRM gathering by allow ing you to gather customer information in the event they abandon their created shopping cart for one reason or another. You have basic information to contact them and hopefully make a sale.3 votes

For those of us who are utilizing the Customer Portal (have it activated in our shopping cart Setup), this should automatically add a section in the checkout for customers to sign up during the checkout process.1 vote

In addition, when I receive email confirmation that an order has been placed, my customer's cc # show up in the Other Information which is set up for customers to enter their UPS/Fed acct # if they want an order shipped NDA OR 2nd day. We would like a direct link we can send to customers that will allow them to handle their recurring orders ie update credit card or cancel their recurring order without requiring them to sign up for the customer portal. The reason for this is our customers have a terrible time navigating to their recurring orders so the other solution would be to make the customer portal eaiser to navigate and more intuitive.1 vote
I would love to see the ability to make member only pages. If you are logged into the store, you'd have access to these pages. It could be used to offer free content, coupons, member podcasts, etc. The key is that there would be additional value for people who choose to register. Right now, the only place to do this is on the portal pages with the top/bottom html customization.1 vote
I would love to see an opportunity to create a customer segmentation/loyalty program.
1. Option to buy higher level.
2. Option to get higher level based on dollars spent/time as a customer
3. Ability to link autoresponder to higher level so unsubscribing will also un-enroll them.
4. Ability to assign benefits such as discount or free shipping to that group.
5. Ability to restrict coupons to the gold customers
