Handling Cart Abandonment
Need feature when customer clears or tries ot close cart window ( without submitting order) to be able to offer them a reason to go ahead - special discount, optional item, etc.

I don't think the discount idea is a good one since it will encourage repeat behavior just to get the discount once the customer figures out the system.
Or how about offering a pop up form asking them WHY they are abandoning the cart or have them take a mini survey. Then we can LEARN from this and it won't cause customers to game the system.
This is a good, and common suggestion... However, many experts are concerned that this strategy only encourages a pattern of behavior.
The more often merchants use the "Get a discount if you try and abandon" win-back, the more people will rely on that fact and game the system. In effect, this strategy teaches consumers that by trying to abandon they will never have to pay full price for anything.
